What an ass!

While listening to the Bush's State of the Union Address, this was the overwhelming thought that kept crossing my mind.

I'm not usually a political person. Mostly it pisses me off so much that I tend to ignore it, because it doesn't seem to be worth fuming over something I can't change. I cast my vote in November and it didn't do a damn bit of good, so why bother focusing on it.

Well, since there was nothing else on TV tonight, I was stuck either watching this or some home design show on one of 47 different cable networks.

I'm just going to go over a few points that he discussed tonight, and while I am in no way qualified to make any real political or financial suggestions, I can still say whatever the hell I want right? Has the President taken our right to free speech yet? Not yet? Good. Until he does I'm just going to spout my asinine opinions like they matter to anyone.

He starts by talking about less spending by the government, and how the government needs to cut back, streamline and he's got a plan to cut the deficit in half by 2009. How the hell is he going to do that when he keeps dumping $80 Billion here and there on a war that nobody wanted in the first place!

America has created 2.3 Million new jobs last year (or was that the last 4 years) How many jobs were lost? What's the Net gain here?

Lot's of talk about Tax reform and Social Security reform. I don't know much about either, I know I'm all for a simpler tax code, and I'm all for personal retirement plans, but I'm wondering would I still have to pay Social Security tax in addition? and if I don't who's paying for the current benefits for the retired? I'm pretty sure that no matter how this turns out, I'm gonna get screwed out of all the money I've already put in to SS and probably get screwed out of a lot money I'll be putting in the future.

There was some statements about opening the borders for work permits. The most interesting statement I heard was "Why not let the immigrants do the work Americans don't want to?". Good point. If all you rich white Americans want cheap Mexican labor to take care of your multi-million dollar homes, why should you be made criminals for it? Let's make it legal! What do you bet minimum wage won't apply to immigrants on a work permit.

But where he really showed his true colors was his ***, right wing fundamentalist statements about the sanctity of marriage, scientific research, and faith based organizations running on federal funding.

There has been no sanctity in marriage in this country for decades. With over half of all marriages ending in divorce (I know, I've failed at two of them), marriages of convenience so that immigrants can get green cards and 5 minute drive through Las Vegas marriages, where the hell is the sanctity? For (choose your deity here)'s sake, if two men or two women want to make the same commitment that Bubba Jackson can make to his mail-order Russian bride Natalia, why not let them? All they want is the same rights that two drunken kids can get in 5 minutes of regrettable impulsion overseen by an Elvis impersonator! We're talking about civil rights here people.

Then he promises to make sure that Human dignity is preserved in medical research. Sounds great, but what he really means is that he's going to make sure that stem cell research stand s stifled because the dignity of a fetus that was just aborted by it's teenage mother is more important than research that can save millions with degenerative diseases, as well as opening up whole new branches of medical research. We have NO VIABLE stem cell branches left in this country (that will be government funded). They are all tainted. We need new cells. Where's the human dignity for those fetuses when they are incinerated amongst other biological and medical waste. I would think there would be far more dignity it being used for research to save the lives of millions. That's why I'm a donor. There should be donor cards for fetuses, that would solve this problem.

And then ... he goes right on into his plan to destroy the separation of Church and State. It doesn't matter that for 200 years we've managed to fairly successfully keep this country from becoming a Theocracy, he's going to wipe that out in a matter of 8 years if he can. Now the government is in the business of supporting faith based organizations. Sure, these organizations provide help for troubled teens, people with addictions yadda, yadda blah blah blah. What we are really funding here are fronts for religious recruitment. All of these organizations provide help for desperate people by way of God. Fix your life through faith in Jesus. These are government subsidized missions. Exactly what separation of Church and State was put in place to prevent!!

All of this was followed up by a lot of drivel about how "successful" we've been in Iraq, and how much better they will be with an elected government. Has everyone forgot the original premise of going there in the first place? We went in to find "Weapons of Mass Destruction". It was a miserable FAILURE! There is nothing "successful about the occupation of Iraq. It has been a bumble-*** from the beginning.

Again, all I have left to say is ... What an ass.
