Update: HA!! I just saw Jon Stewart of The Daily Show cover this, and he has this to say:
"The President has issued a statement. On September 16th there will be a day of prayer. Now uh .. uh .. Ok. But isn't a hurricane, if I may and I don't mean to be crass in any way .. an act of God? Shouldn't this be maybe a day of shunning?"
