Christian School Set Ablaze

And not with the power of the Holy Spirit either!

Some of you may remember the Not So Brief  History of my Religious Upbringing, in which I talk at length about the Christian school I attended as a teenager. Well, someone went and set it on fire.

It was only a matter of time.

From the article in The Patriot Ledger:

A Plymouth patrolman saw a flickering light coming from the church at about 2 a.m. yesterday and extinguished a fire before the flames could spread to other gasoline-soaked areas of the church. Detectives later removed a red plastic gasoline container from the church.

[...]

Schlecht was on routine patrol when he saw flickering light coming from the church. He found a side door propped open and smelled gasoline.

He doused a small fire in the back hall and when the smoke cleared, he discovered carpets upstairs and downstairs in the church had been soaked with gasoline, police said.

Not that I condone arson or vandalism of any kind, but in the case of this one particular church, all I can say is damn!

Apparently there's some weirdo running around placing random bible verses and other scribblings on the doors of churches in the area, although the police won't say whether they think the fire is connected. Oh and several mailboxes have been smasehed in recent weeks too, although if memory serves me right, mailbox smashing is and has been a routine sport in that area as long as I can remember. (That whole Long Pond - Cedarville area is pretty backwoods)

It all makes you wonder though, was this just some random crazy arsonist, or the wholly manufactured type of crazy that that church and school have been producing for years?

And I'll just leave you with the one of the most ironic statements I've ever heard. It's like irony inside of irony inside of irony inside of irony ... ad naseua

Olavo DeMacedo, who has been going to the church for 30 years, said he will pray for the perpetrator.

‘‘You’ve got to be in a weird place to do something like this,’’ DeMacedo said. ‘‘The very thing he tried to burn down is the very thing he needs. What he tried to burn can’t be destroyed with flames.’’
